Ugly Places, Pretty Portraits: I Did a Photo Shoot in Lowe’s

"The point was to challenge ourselves. I wanted somewhere with horrible lighting and limited backdrops. Somewhere that made absolutely no sense for a photo shoot. "

LENSCRATCH 2018 Student Prize

Been cruising the internet, looking for some interesting places to submit some work and came across the LENSCRATCH Student Prize. Its a great place to have your work be featured and there's a little prize money in there too! If you're interested go to their website and it has all the details!

http://lenscratch.com/student-prize/

“Winning the Lenscratch student prize has been an incredible experience.  It has provided more than I could have ever expected, from Aline’s incredible mentoring and personal dedication, to the tremendous amount of exposure and personal connections that followed.  The support of Lenscratch propelled my artistic career forward, providing opportunities that were out of reach prior and pushing beyond personal expectations.  Students at every level of education should apply for the award and embrace the process without a doubt.”

Rate My Artist Residency

Rate My Artist Residency is a great organization and resource with information about all things AIR.

Call for Entry

Deadline: Thursday, March 29- Midnight

The annual Helen Levitt Photography Contest. I think the contest is a great opportunity for students as it results in a local exhibition of work and awards cash prizes. I helped convince the contest administrators to extend the deadline to midnight Thursday of this week because it originally fell during the SCAD break. It would be great If you could encourage your students to submit as it gives them experience with contests that is simple and local. It would be even greater if you could forward the link below to your classes. The Helen Levitt Contest is a wonderful resource for Savannah and SCAD Photo students and I'm hoping your students continued involvement will keep the exhibition fresh and engaging while ensuring it can occur annually.

Artist in Residency

This was recently sent to me so I thought I would share! Slow Exposures is opening a call for an artist in residency along with a call for entry entitled Young Photographers'. The theme for the residency is the Rural South. I know a couple people who are interested in continuing to explore the South so maybe this is a place to do it!

Photo-Based Solo Exhibitions | $2500 Cash Award Potential!

Typically about one-third of Manifest's exhibits are dedicated to solo exhibits. Solo exhibitors have included local, regional, national and international artists from as far away as New York City, San Francisco, Canada, and Hong Kong. It is important for our non-profit mission that each of our seasons of free public exhibits consist of a balanced mix of solo and group thematic projects. Group shows provide diversity of media, approach, style, and geographic origin, while our solo exhibits provide a deeper insight into an artist's vision.
Manifest is eager to receive proposals for solo exhibits of various types of photo-based visual art for this season-launching exhibition. Proposals will be reviewed starting in mid-April in consideration for the September 28-October 26, 2018 exhibition period. No notifications will be made until the final selection has been decided upon (anticipated by June 1st). Our aim is to select from one to three solo exhibitions for this timeframe. These exhibits will be concurrent with two competitive FotoFocus- sponsored group exhibitions at Manifest.
