NO DEAD ARTISTS ::: ANNUAL INTERNATIONAL JURIED EXHIBITION OF CONTEMPORARY ART

Deadline for entries: June 15, 2015, show date: September 01, 2015
Jonathan Ferrara Gallery, New Orleans, Louisiana

Jonathan Ferrara Gallery proudly hosts an annual call for artists for NO DEAD ARTISTS. The call for each year is open through mid-June and the exhibition participants are selected by an ever-changing group of three prestigious arts professionals. The exhibition itself is installed in the gallery for the entire month of September with an opening reception the first Saturday from 6-9pm.

The exhibition was created in 1995 to give a voice to emerging artists. No Dead Artists has become an exhibition that has time and again discovered new and emerging talent and is one of the most celebrated art exhibitions in the South.

No Dead Artists

The exhibition's name is derived from the old adage that artists never achieve success until they are dead. No Dead Artists turns that notion on its head and gives emerging artists their first break in the art world. In the 90's, the exhibition was open only to New Orleans artists and subsequently grew to include artists of Louisiana. In 2010, the exhibition expanded to become a national juried exhibition open to artists from the entire United States.

Each year, hundreds of artists submit thousands of works with the hope of being in the select few to exhibit at Jonathan Ferrara Gallery each September. The exhibition is reviewed annually by D. Eric Bookhardt (Artpapers and Gambit Weekly). The opening reception marks the beginning of the arts season in New Orleans and is attended by thousands of art enthusiasts.

Each year, one jury-winning artist is awarded a solo exhibition at Jonathan Ferrara Gallery to take place the following year as the grand prize.

No Dead Artists is open to living, emerging to established artists working throughout the world. All mediums are accepted including, but not limited to, painting, sculpture, design, glass, metalwork, photography, video, mixed media and installation art.

The exhibition has been a springboard for numerous artists leading to national press coverage, recognition, gallery representation and acquisitions by museums and other prominent collections. Each year gallery owner Jonathan Ferrara invites a panel of renowned arts professionals and collectors to select the newest creative talents. Past jurors have included Prospect.1 Founder and Curator Dan Cameron, Museum Director Billie Milam Weisman, Collector and Philanthropist Beth Rudin DeWoody, MacArthur Fellow John Scott, Whitney Trustee and Ballroom Marfa Co-founder Fairfax Dorn, NOMA Director Susan Taylor, artist Tony Fitzpatrick, Director of the Andy Warhol Museum Eric Shiner, Director of the National Art Gallery of the Bahamas and Founder and Artistic Director of the VOLTA Fair Amanda Coulson, Dishman Art Museum Director Megan Koza Young, ArtBridge Curator Jordana Zeldin, MoMA Board Member Lawrence Benenson, Brooklyn Museum of Art Board Member Stephanie Ingrassia, Collector Nick Mayor, and the Director of the Contemporary Arts Museum of Houston, Bill Arning.

Jonathan Ferrara Gallery

Jonathan Ferrara Gallery is a collective environment of creative visions; a commercial gallery with a public conscience. Artist, activist, and entrepreneur Jonathan Ferrara opened the gallery in 1998 to give artists a voice. Since its inception, the gallery has focused on cutting edge works by local, national and international artists with a sense of purpose, mission, and message. In recent years, it has gained a national reputation and increasingly presents artists and exhibitions in cities across the US and in Europe including the Pulse Fair in Miami, the VOLTA Fair in New York City and Basel, Switzerland as well as working with museums and institutions.

The Darkroom Gallery (VT), Call for Photography Submissions: Chronograph

Clocks, watches, pendulums and metronomes tick the seconds away.  At a most elemental level, the moon, sun, stars and shadows tell us time as the tides and waves of the oceans create a rhythm we exist within.  A river can cut away a rock face in time as waves can clear a beach.  People become worn, gnarled and aged over time as the rings of a tree count the decades. Retro furniture, fashion or surrounding atmospheres can automatically date a place. Darkroom Gallery is calling for explorative visual depictions of time.  Pasts and futures can often collide…and what of time travelers and quantum physics?  Lastly, photographs can be truly devoid of time, they can have a sort of classic “timelessness”.
Juror: Johan Hallberg-Campbell
Entry fee: $24 for four images, $5.00 each for additional images

Call For Entry: Wheaton Biennial Framing Photography

REQUIREMENTS:

Entry Fee (Beard & Weil Gallery): $35.00

Entry Deadline: November 24, 2015
Artists Notified: January 15, 2015
Exhibition Dates: February 27 – April 15, 2015
Reception: Tuesday, March 3, 2015

About The Exhibition
Wheaton College cultivates an open spirit of inquiry with a curriculum emphasizing connections across disciplinary boundaries. The Wheaton Biennial invites artists whose work reflects a similar spirit of inquiry and a critical reflection on what constitutes the boundaries of a particular artistic medium. The 2015 Biennial will focus on new directions in photography and will examine what constitutes a photograph in the age of digital technology.
Work by artists in all stages of their careers will be considered. Selections will be made by the Biennial juror Kristen Gresh, Assistant Curator of Photographs at the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston. We are seeking a diverse range of experimental work, collectively evoking an open-ended reconsideration of the boundaries of photography.

About The Galleries
The Beard and Weil Galleries are a vital part of Wheaton’s creative and intellectual life. Exhibitions feature work by contemporary artists in all media, as well as works from Wheaton’s extensive Permanent Collection, spanning Ancient Greece to contemporary South America.
The educational mission of the galleries encompasses all forms of creative expression in an effort to forge meaningful connections between objects and their histories, student and faculty creative work, art historical research and critical thinking. The crucial role the visual arts play in a liberal arts education is central to the design and focus of our exhibitions.

Eligibility
All works must be original and not previously exhibited at Beard and Weil Galleries. All media will be considered. All work must be received ready for exhibition with appropriate hanging hardware in place. The gallery director reserves the right to reject work that differs from submitted images.

About The Juror
Kristen Gresh was appointed Estrellita and Yousuf Karsh Assistant Curator of Photographs at the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston (MFA), in January 2012. She was the curator of the recent exhibition at the MFA, She Who Tells a Story: Women Photographers from Iran and the Arab World, and is the author of the exhibition’s companion publication. Gresh first discovered the powerful work created by women from this region while living abroad for 15 years, teaching history of photography at the Ecole du Louvre, Wells College in Paris and at the American University of Cairo.
Gresh was also a contributor to the auction book and catalog The Photo Diary of John G. Morris (2010) and to the books On Display: Visual Politics, Material Culture, and Public Education (forthcoming), and Getting the Picture: The History & Visual Culture of the News (forthcoming). Her Ph.D. dissertation from the Ecole des Hautes Etudes en Sciences Sociales was titled, “The Family of Man: A Critical History of an American Photographic Exhibition,” parts of which have been published in the academic journals Etudes Photographiques and History of Photography.

Baang + Burne New Works Grant and Gallery Representation 2014-15 DEADLINE 1/31/15

Dear Artists,
Welcome to Baang + Burne 2014 -15 Call to Entry / New Works Grant.
This is the third year Baang + Burne has hosted a Call for Entry / New Works Grant. A spot on our gallery roaster - representation and/ or a $2,500 cash award that recognizes the strongest new works proposal in contemporary art.
I know some of you must be wondering what is this all about, how is it different from all the other call for entries out there and what is in it for you.
Let's start with what is Baang + Bure.
Baang + Burne is founded in 2010 by artist Kesha Bruce and myself. I came from 15 years of advertising and a career as a documentarian; Kesha has a solid track record as a fine art artist with an MFA from Hunter College. We wanted to do something different. We are romantic and idealistic in our belief of what art could be, the kind of advocates’ artists should have (creative, passionate, out-of-the-box-thinkers) and the type of dealers’ collectors should do business with (ethical and honest). The combination is tall order. So we created it ourselves.
Through 4 long years of exhibits, art fairs, auctions and collaborations, Baang + Burne has evolved into what it is today --- and it is still growing. We are somewhere between a traditional gallery and an artist collective. You are represented and spirit of collaboration is our core value. Art is a long game and we will only ever come out of this alive if we are not in it together.
Joshua King, Dominic Sansone, Richard Hart and Nathan Sharratte are four wonderful artists we connected with and currently represent during our previous call for entry. Cat del Burno was our first new works grant recipient.
Baang + Burne is growing and we are looking for you.
Everyone has limited resources and time. Those are put under further restraints when you are an artist. We get it. If the fee is not within your budget, then please, do not submit. If being a part of Baang + Burne excites you, then we would love to see what you've been up to. If you've got a project underway and some money would help it along, click submit and put your name in the hat. We want to help you make new art.
We spent an enormous amount of time looking at what comes our way. Your submissions are not taken lightly. This is a place of mutual respect. We respect you for what you do and we ask you to extend us the same consideration.
Baang + Burne is growing. We are looking for you. Join us.
Warmly,
Charlie Grosso
Co-Founder / Exe Director

Tiny Divas Non-Fiction Gallery call for entry / Deadline: 12/19/14

This is a reposting of Non-Fiction's call for entries for the show TINY DIVAS. The show needed to be postponed until January 2015 so the gallery has extended the deadline and revised a few of the theme guidelines.

DIVAS: Bold. Talented. Demanding. Idolized.
Whether they are known for their powerhouse vocals and intoxicating talent or their over-the-top life and style, a true diva is a muse to the masses. Divas captivate, terrify and inspire. They demand devotion while remaining utterly unapproachable, keeping the world at a measured distance. Non-Fiction Gallery wants to bring the celebrity divine within reach.
Non-Fiction Gallery wants to bring the celebrity divine within reach. Rather than choosing the more obvious route of “large persona, larger artwork,” the gallery’s next juried show will feature the world’s favorite superstars on a pocket-sized scale. Show us your smallest works inspired by the biggest and boldest doyennes. It’s time for that close-up, Mister DeMille.
