A great portrait reveals something of the depth, history, and emotional state of the subject, at least as captured in a single moment in time. Although many portraits zero in on the face, many fine images don't show the face at all, instead using light, gesture, context, and other nuances of expression to create an informative portrait.

Introducing the 1st "Aesthetic Anomalies”, an international art competition and online exhibit. This art competition is open to artists of all ages internationally with no restrictions on media or style. The theme for this art competition is “Aesthetic Anomalies”. Only artists whose work is selected as finalists will pay the $35 participation fee. Finalists will have their work exhibited online and will move on to the final round of Jurying in consideration for cash prizes and the opportunity to win the grand prize of $1,000.

"It’s all about the light! Light and shadow have been the foundation of photography since the beginning. While illumination is important, darkness is an equally compelling component and, together, the elements of a successful photograph. Show us your best light!"

 All photographers regardless of location, age or skill level. Images previously selected for exhibition at the SE Center for Photography within two years of the current exhibition are not eligible.

 Family Ties

Families, we want to showcase the many different ways that family can be represented. It can be a place you seek comfort in, but for many it could be harmful. We aim to explore the many different photographic representations of what "family" could be. 

Color or monochrome, all subjects, digital or antique processes, analog and digital manipulation in all its forms welcome. Photographers of all skill levels and locations are welcome.

The Montgomery Photo Festival 2024

 

Submission is open to all photographers (professional and amateur), working in all forms of photography. Four categories are offered (color, monochromatic, alternative process, and manipulation (digital and film). $1000 best in show, $500 best in category (4 awards), and $250 merit awards (4 awards).

The cost to enter is $25. You may enter up to three images for that fee.

This exhibit will consist of 65 photographs selected by the juror. A reception will be held on Saturday July 13, at Stonehenge Gallery, 401 Cloverdale Rd, Montgomery, 36106. The exhibit will open on Wednesday, July 10 and be on display until August 30

There is no theme for this exhibit. There is no time limit for when you produced your work. Help us elevate photography as an art form. Show us your best!

Nikon, the legendary still camera manufacturer, has agreed to purchase RED, the company behind some of the most popular cinema cameras on the market today.

The Z9 is one of the best mirrorless cameras on the market for capturing professional video. But, since the film world is incredibly brand conscious, and Nikon doesn’t yet have the reputation in the motion picture industry in the way that companies like Arri, RED, or Sony do, many industry veterans just aren’t used to thinking of Nikon cameras in that way. They end up liking the results. But it can take some convincing.

Disposable cameras are a great way to dabble in the world of film photography. They require very little investment, and the combination of a cheap lens and a prominent flash make for a unique and distinctive look that smartphone cameras can’t easily replicate. Now, Kodak has introduced a new disposable that comes loaded with its iconic Tri-x 400 black-and-white film. It’s a relatively affordable way for the analog-curious to try one of the most famous films of all time.

Interview With Dylan Hausthor:
The Barn, Queer Futurism, & New England Gas Stations

    the barn is a book of photographs made during the summer and fall of 2023 all in a single barn that served as the artist's studio. the barn exists as a church—a sanctuary—a queer future—a (non)functional space of imagination. The book consists of 30 plates on Awagami Washi bamboo paper. It was created while Hausthor was a resident at Maine Media.

Brian Paul Clamp is the owner and director of CLAMP, a gallery in Chelsea in New York City specializing in modern and contemporary art with an emphasis on photography. CLAMP mounts ten to fifteen exhibitions per year featuring the work of emerging and mid-career artists. Mr. Clamp opened the gallery in 2000. Aside from curating exhibitions at his own gallery space, Clamp has curated numerous photography shows at various venues throughout the United States, and has reviewed photographers’ portfolios at dozens of events over many years. Mr. Clamp is the author of many publications on American art to date, and occasionally contributes written work to various art periodicals.
