Plymouth Center for the Arts: I-Phonography Now

The Plymouth Center for the Arts is hosting their Third Annual I-Phonography exhibition highlighting the emerging power of mobile devices as cameras and artistic tools.

The entry fee is $10 per image, with an upper limit of 15 images per person. The show will feature 50 images with cash prizes presented to the best in show. The deadline is October 7th. Enter at CallforEntry.org.

About the exhibition:

Coinciding with the presidential and local elections, Newspace Center for Photography in Portland, OR announces an open call for a group exhibition centered on the theme of democracy. Submissions should respond to the question “what does democracy look like in 2016?” We encourage experimentation with different genres and formats of photography.

Leading up to the elections we will host a discussion, gatherings, and presidential debate screenings in conjunction with this exhibition, which address how democracy is interpreted through the camera lens and how our governing system functions in current times.

How to apply:

Each entry may contain up to five images. You may submit as many entries as you like. All entries must be submitted using the online entry system below. CD entries will not be accepted. Each entry costs $40* (free for Newspace Members at the Patron Level and above).

Images must be sized as 72dpi jpg files that are 10 inches in their longest dimension. Each jpg file should be titled with your last name, first initial, ‘underscore’ and the entry number, i.e. the first image uploaded by Mike Smith would be SmithM_1.jpg

Kevin Miller was the Director and Senior Curator at the Southeast Museumof Photography (SMP) from 2001 to 2014. He is currently an associate curator at SMP, which is a public museum located in Florida that holds the largest photography collection in Florida and is the largest exclusively photographic museum in the southeastern US. 

HONORS | AWARDS

An international audience of collectors, curators, art consultants and other advocates of fine art photography will view the chosen artist’s work throughout the exhibition. All chosen artists are invited to complimentary portfolio reviews, lunch and portfolio sharing on the reception weekend. Each participant is included in the Center’s Main Gallery exhibition in Fort Collins, Colorado and Online Gallery exhibition.

JUROR | Karen Marks
Karen Marks has been Director of Howard Greenberg Gallery for over 15 years. In that time she has organized countless exhibitions, curated international art fairs and edited many publications. She is also an active board member of Association of International Photography Art Dealers. Karen Marks has been working in the world of fine art photography since her graduation from the School of Visual Arts in 1984. Starting as a junior specialist in the photography department at Swann Galleries, since then she has worked in both public and private galleries, advising private clients and working closely with public institutions. She has juried numerous competitions and is called upon frequently as a portfolio reviewer for many programs.

Don’t Take Pictures exists to showcase the work of emerging photographers. In addition to publishing photographers in print, and online in our monthly columns, we also publish quarterly online exhibitions.

Coastal living is not for the faint of heart, lives lived by the sea are dictated by weather and tide. One of nature’s most powerful forces, the ocean can transform from calm to terrible in the blink of an eye. Connecting people from around the globe, our oceans are used for fishing, transportation, recreation, and more. From the safety of the shoreline, the bow of a ship, or beneath the waves, for “The Seven Seas,” Don’t Take Pictures seeks photographic images that explore the many facets of the ocean.

Masks - SE Center for Photography

MASKS -The dream, the nightmare, the impossible and the unusual. 

We all wear masks. At Halloween, Mardi Gras. At work we are one person, at home- another, and with friends we have yet more masks to choose from. We're looking for images with masks, literal and figurative, color or BW, analog, digital or antique processes, photographers of all skill levels and locations are welcome.

Our juror for Masks is Aline Smithson. After a career as a New York Fashion Editor and working along side the greats of fashion photography, Aline Smithson discovered the family Rolleiflex and never looked back. An artist now represented by galleries in the U.S. and Europe and published throughout the world, Aline continues to create her award-winning photography with humor, compassion, and a 50-year-old camera
Aline founded and writes the blogzine, Lenscratch, that celebrates a different contemporary photographer each day and offers opportunity for exhibition. Aline has curated and juried exhibitions for a number of galleries, organizations, and on-line magazines. She was an overall juror in 2012 for Review Santa Fe, a juror for Critical Mass from 2009-2015, a juror and curator for Flash Forward, and is a reviewer at many photo festivals across the United States.

PhotoPlace Gallery

The hand of man may lie lightly or heavily on the landscape, but few places on earth are completely untouched; the visible presence of humans on the planet is almost unavoidable. Here we seek images that demonstrate human impact in ways ranging from subtle to grotesque.

All capture methods and processes are welcome.

We are very pleased that Brett Erickson has agreed to jury Man in the Landscape. He will select 35 images for exhibition in the gallery, and another 40 images for exhibition in our online gallery. All 75 will be reproduced in the exhibition catalog.

Eligibility

Open to all photographers. To encourage international participation, we offer printing of accepted work, as well as free matting and framing for the duration of the exhibit.

Texas Photographic Society sets an August 15, 2016 deadline for FotoTexas: People, Places & Culture. This call will be juried by Dan Burkholder, fine art photographer, author and educator based in Palenville, New York. FotoTexas seeks work produced in Texas and wishes to celebrate the rich history, culture, people, icons and landscape of the state that TPS proudly calls home. The exhibition will be supplemented by exciting programming with Burkholder, including a public lecture and iPhone workshop.

Identity: Race in America Call for Entry

Portfolio Showcase: In each of five shows, the gallery features the portfolios of two photographers selected through a call for work. The theme of each call is directly related to the scheduled exhibition. WATER IN MOTION

Photography Center of Cape Cod, a program of Cape Cod Art Association, seeks entries for their WATER IN MOTION Online Exhibition. Water surrounds us and comes in many forms. We play in it, with it and on it. There isn’t a day that goes by where it isn’t a part of our lives. Water in motion is beautiful when it cascades down a mountain or playfully dances in a fountain. However it can also be destructive when Mother Nature tears into our beaches during a storm. All photographers of any level are invited to submit to this open juried online photography exhibit.
