Atlanta Photography Group is seeking submissions for Arnika Dawkins Selects. Juror Arnika Dawkins is the owner of her eponymous fine art photography gallery established in Atlanta in 2011. Dawkins shows work by talented emerging and mid-career artists with a specialization in photography by African Americans and images of African Americans. This exhibition will be featured in the Festival Guide for Atlanta Celebrates Photography. 

Virginia Twinam Smith Purchase Award

Two photographs from Selects may receive the Virginia Twinam Smith Award: $500 cash prize and their work donated to the Museum of Contemporary Art of Georgia (MOCAGA) for their permanent collection. Past recipients include:

Photographs that convey a “sense of place” blend the physical characteristics of a scene, landscape or object with the mysterious essence that emerges from gradually and perhaps unconsciously inhabiting a place over time.  The photograph ceases to become an objective document. Instead, it takes on a particular feeling that is invested with something that is often intangible, revealing a deeper understanding of what lays beneath the surface.

From the Pastoral to the Political Local Food Production, Land Use, and Communities

Food production, land use, and the building of community are interconnected themes. What is the relationship between the local food movement, farming and how we look at issues such as agribusiness, GMOs, and man-made chemicals? How has the preservation of land and natural resources become vital? The various local food movements found across the country have helped build their communities and created new economies. 

This national juried exhibition seeks to explore the potential of artists within this dialogue. What do artists have to say about localism, how are they responding to these issues in their work, and what can contemporary art add to this discussion?

Eligibility

Open to works of any medium exploring the concept of gender. 3D limited to 100 lbs and must fit through a 5’10” x 6’8” door. 2D must fit through said door.

Requirements

Files should contain jpeg images of work; an image list that contains artist name, address, phone numbers, email, title of work, year completed, medium, dimension (h x w x d) and price. 

Jpegs must be 300 dpi and maximum 1024 pixels on the longest side. Video Submissions MUST be in either low resolution or H.264 format.

Extra detail images will NOT be sent to the juror. One image per submission.

ACP Portfolio Review and Walk

Some important information:

• The ACP 2016 Portfolio Review is all-day Saturday, and Sunday morning, October 8th & 9th. The event is at the GA Tech Hotel and Conference Center in midtown Atlanta.
• Be sure you have read our main event information page before registering to see all the amazing benefits of participating in our boutique review event.
• Registrants will be given a promo code for a discount when booking your room at the hotel.
• The Reviews are limited to 84 participants.
• After registration, later this summer, you’ll be able to declare your preferences for meeting with certain reviewers.
• Please Note: The slots are filled primarily on a first-come first-served basis, however, registrant’s work is lightly juried to ensure that only photographers who have strong portfolios and are ‘review-ready’ will be admitted (a full refund will be given to any photographer not accepted into the review).
• If you have been accepted and are unable to attend, ACP must be notified prior to September 26th in order to issue a refund.

You are invited to submit to Photo ‘16, a national juried fine art photography exhibit at Multiple Exposures Gallery at the Torpedo Factory Art Center in Alexandria, VA.  

Juror: Sam Abell - Distinguished photographer, teacher, writer, lecturer and National Geographic documentary photographer.

Exhibit dates: October 18, 2016 - November 27, 2016. Awards and opening reception, Saturday, October, 29th, 2016, 2 - 4 pm.
