When recently looking for possible position openings, I saw that the Savannah Banana's require a video cover letter to be sent in, rather than a written one. I did some research on this and apparently its not uncommon practice anymore for employers to see a video of you, rather than a letter.

These $5,000 grants will support photography projects — either new or in-progress — from visual journalists working in a documentary capacity.
Five grants are available, one of which will be earmarked for a non-binary or transgender photographer.
Applicants are encouraged to submit a story, rather than singles, as part of the grant application. The images need not be related to the project proposal. Multimedia projects are welcome.

Women Photograph has partnered with Getty Images to award a $10,000 grant in support of an ongoing documentary project from a professional photojournalist who has demonstrated a long-term commitment to their story. Applicants should submit portfolios of 20-25 images indicating that a substantial amount of work has already been completed, and that the photographer has a clear vision of what further work is needed to complete the project. Additional consideration will be given to applicants who evince a personal connection to – and engagement with – the communities they cover.

Any photographers – members and non-members alike are strongly encouraged to submit a proposal for a future solo or group exhibition at VCP. Exhibits run from the first Friday of each month to the Sunday prior to the NEXT first-Friday. VCP considers all types of styles and subject matter for exhibition. We encourage collaboration and are willing to entertain alternative presentations and installations.

The Summer Studio Program in Photography, Film + Media Art is a supportive, rigorous artistic residency that combines theory, practice and professional development over four weeks in Richmond, VA. Taking advantage of our extensive facilities at VCUarts, Summer Studio provides concentrated studio time and ample workspace, artist lectures, engagement with critics and curators and generous critiques with VCUarts faculty and guest artists. 12 Photographers Win 2018 Guggenheim Fellowships
Anthony Hernandez, David Maisel, Rania Matar, Meghann Riepenhoff and Hank Willis Thomas are among the 12 photographic artists named 2018 Guggenheim Fellows, according to an announcement from the John Simon Guggenheim Memorial Foundation. The fellowships provide grants of undisclosed amounts to support project by artists, scholars, scientists and writers. The foundation selected 173 fellows this year from a pool of more than 3,000 applicants. This year’s fellows in photography are:

Guggenheim Fellows have included Robert Frank, Diane Arbus, LaToya Ruby Frazier, Jon Lowenstein, Carlos Javier Ortiz, Lyle Ashton Harris, Brenda Ann Kenneally and Maggie Steber. The fellowships were started in 1925. Dorothea Lange was the first photographer to win a fellowship, in 1941.

Eugene Smith Grant for Student Photographers to encourage and support students whose photographic work renews the tradition of W. Eugene Smith’s humanistic and compassionate photography. Special consideration will be given to work that promotes social change and that embraces new technologies and image distribution, and that seeks to integrate the tradition of photography and social change with contemporary practice.
$4,000 grant, $1 entry fee.
